Alister, the electronic interlocking system developed by FunkwerkInformation Technologies, is a unique and cost-effective solution using modular system architecture based on standard components and adapted system functionality. It replaces obsolete technologies which were based on manufacturer-specific platforms and entailed high life-cycle costs. Alister has been designed specifically for small and medium-sized stations. Here the volume of transport is much lower and the stations are smaller and less complex than those in the core of the network. Alister meets all the main specifications of rail network operators – low investment and operational costs, specifically adapted control and safety technology and long-term availability of spare parts. The Innovative System for Small and Medium-Sized Stations The electronic interlocking system Alister has all the features required by railway operators today - safety, a high degree of automation and remote control and networking functions. The system constitutes an innovation as it predominantly works with standard components of proven industrial performance and reliability. This not only leads to considerable cost savings, but also increases future-compliance. The first system was developed for the Swedish infrastructure operator Banverket. The Advantages of Alister
Future-Compliance Thanks to Industrial Standards Thanks to the use of industrial standards, Alister works with open interfaces. Connections to external systems such as an existing control centre or neighbouring interlockings are therefore problem-free and future hard- or software upgrades affect only individual parts, but not the system as a whole. Alister is one of the few interlocking systems in the world which has been implemented according to formal specifications. On The Way to Approval throughout Europe As safety takes pride of place in all types of stations, the interlocking system was designed and developed in full compliance with CENELEC, meeting Safety Integrity Level SIL 4 in accordance with CENELEC EN 50126/50128/50129. The stringent application of European standards has paved the way for cross-acceptance of the safety approval for the system by other rail authorities.
