Scheduling the Resources to Implement a Timetable
For a train operating company, the train service options are limited by two factors: the mobile resources (rolling stock, train crews) and track capacity. Our solution for these companies is a system which provides integrated planning of trains and resources. ResourcePlan can be used to create a resource-driven or timetable-driven plan. If vehicle schedules are created first, the train schedules can be refined until a suitable path is found. If the timetable is decided first, ResourcePlan helps you build a robust and accurate set of resource schedules.

The interactive activity (Gantt) chart and time-distance graph provide different ways of building and viewing resource schedules. Non-train activities such as crew signing-on times and vehicle cleaning can easily be added to schedules. Validation is provided against planning rules and to ensure there are no jumps in time or between locations. Route and traction knowledge restrictions can also be entered so that the right type of resource is always allocated to a train. Consistency between trains and vehicle schedules is tracked and a visual warning given if they no longer match. Cycling of schedules from one day to the next is also supported, allowing vehicle maintenance and fuelling to be planned efficiently.

ResourcePlan also has sophisticated calendar handling to manage complex combinations of operating dates. System tools allow versions of schedules to be compared easily. Once schedules are completed they can be published and distributed, either by printing in a variety of formats or through interfaces to other systems. For example, a daily download of schedules can be made to ResourceManager, Funkwerk IT’s fleet management system.
