Smooth and safe railway operations – this is the task of the staff in interlockings and control centres. It is also a great responsibility. To help staff achieve trouble-free operation they are supported by complex control and safety systems. But do they know what to do if technology fails? What measures have to be taken when trains deviate from schedule, e.g. due to delays? The high density of rail traffic demands fast and confident reactions. Train controllers and dispatchers must therefore receive training which prepares them to deal with all possible situations so that they can manage disruptions in operation quickly and appropriately. Economical and practice-oriented training for train controllers and dispatchers Funkwerk Information Technologies offers an economic concept for realistic simulation of interlocking operation for training purposes. The simulation is adapted for all interlocking designs and manufacturer-independent. The advantages of this system:
Modular structure caters for individual requirements With their modular structure Funkwerk IT’s training systems can simulate all functions performed by interlockings including those of external installations (signals, points etc.) and of course any train or shunting movements defined by the user. The simulation programme has a wide repertoire of technical and operational malfunctions, accidents and hazards which provides optimal training of staff for their daily work and enables them to master every situation with confidence. The simulation system covers the following training phases: Basic Training
Preliminary Training for New Interlockings
Repeat Training
Simulation of Interlocking Logics and External Installations The real topography of every section served by an interlocking can be shown in the simulation system. The special features of the interlocking logics are taken into account, as are any variations in the user and display interfaces of equipment from different manufacturers. The runtime performance of the interlocking and the external installations is reproduced in real time (e.g. route setting).
The system permits simulation of any number of train trips. The trains are generated from the timetable. Furthermore, any train and shunting movements defined by the user can be generated online at any time, applying realistic section and vehicle parameters and corresponding dynamics.
Malfunction of all important external installations can be simulated in detail. Other disruptions (delays, longer stopping times, technical failures in trains etc.) can also be entered into the system. The possibility of reproducing failures which have actually occurred greatly improves controllers’ ability to deal with real emergencies and prepares them for stress situations. In this way staff achieve a high degree of competence in handling such situations.
To train co-operation between several interlockings and operators, a number of interlocking sections – even if they use different technology – can be combined to form a section or network simulation programme. This function is supported by a convenient configuration tool. Simulation of Train Number Indication and Train Routing Train number indication and automatic train routing can also be integrated into Funkwerk IT’s training system for train controllers and dispatchers. |
