Allocating Resources to Train Services
The train service will only operate properly if real locomotives and coaches are allocated on the day. This is the function of ResourceManager.
ResourceManager helps the vehicle controller ensure a train service is fully-resourced. A simple filter quickly identifies uncovered trains. The system keeps track of work actually done and the distance covered, even when vehicles are switched between services. In fact, it is when the service is disrupted that ResourceManager comes into its own.
The impact of route blockages can be quickly assessed, trains cancelled or re-planned and resources re-allocated to deal with any incident. Extra trains can also be created easily.

The system tracks the distance or time until the next maintenance is due and gives a visual warning when this is exceeded. A sophisticated search tool is provided to enable the controller to find suitable replacement vehicles quickly. The interactive activity (Gantt) chart and time-distance train graph give different views of all this data.
The system can handle any type of vehicle, for passenger or freight trains. It has been specifically designed to manage multiple units effectively, so is ideal for a large commuter operation. A comprehensive rolling stock register supports the main functions of ResourceManager.
Role-based security and locking by vehicle group ensures the integrity of data within the system. A sophisticated messaging system allows remote sites to register interest in a group of vehicles and receive automatic updates when there is any change to allocations. This is ideal for maintenance depots to see the impact of changes hours, or even days, ahead.
Although ResourceManager has only been implemented up to now for managing vehicles, it has been designed to manage train crews as well.
