RIMOS: Information Management System for Planned and Actual Data of Heterogeneous Systems
RIMOS is the integration platform for existing and future systems which process planned and actual timetable data in public transportation authorities or transport companies. This platform enables easy exchange of data, based on the SIRI standards, for all connected systems. RIMOS provides the basis for the supply and exchange of complete timetable information covering the lines of all transport modes and companies throughout a region.

Data exchange with RIMOS offers the following applications:
Dynamic passenger information
Transport companies can request the latest departure information for the lines of other companies or modes for their displays at certain stop points
The departure times for all lines stopping at a certain stop point can then be shown together on dynamic passenger information displays.
Guaranteed connections between lines of different operators and modes
Coupling of control systems for transmission of estimated arrival times to enable decisions concerning waiting times of connecting vehicles
Timetable information
Inclusion of daily timetables
Actual / Estimated data
Free passenger information
Input of free texts

Intelligent Communication via VDV / SIRI*
RIMOS’ applications are based on the SIRI standards. The system has been designed to allow integration of customers’ already existing technology. Furthermore, already existing infrastructure such as operations control, passenger information or other timetable-oriented systems are enabled to communicate with each other via the VDV / SIRI standard.

Systems which due to their history do not have the VDV / SIRI standard can be connected to RIMOS using a VDV coupler.

Communication between all connected systems thus takes place according to one technical standard and via one data exchange system only. This simplifies the communication process and makes it more comprehensible. Any differences in communication (e.g. due to different versions) are compensated for by RIMOS. All processes are logged. With the RIMOS system transport companies can enhance their service for passengers, while at the same time reducing administration which has a long-term cost-saving effect.

RIMOS supports all the services listed in VDV documents 453 / 454 which correspond to SIRI services. These services are:
Production Timetable Service: Supports the dynamic exchange of planned schedules, including updates. These may be used by AVMS systems to predict and monitor vehicle progress.
Estimated Timetable Service: Supports the exchange of target schedules in real time, including updates. These may be used by AVMS systems to predict and monitor vehicle progress.
Stop Timetable Service: Provides information about schedules for arrivals and departures at a Stop point.
Stop Monitoring Service: Provides information about arrivals and departures at a Monitoring, i.e. Stop point.
Vehicle Monitoring Service: Provides information about the movement of a vehicle, and its progress against the target schedule.
Connection Timetable Service: Provides information about schedules for interchanges at a connection point.
Connection Monitoring Service: Provides information for interchanges at a connection point to support guaranteed connection services
General Message Service: Supports the exchange of general messages.

Platform-Independent and Future-Compliant Software
The software is platform-independent, implemented in Java and thus compatible with all commercially available operating systems. The user interfaces have been designed to be used like web applications and can therefore be operated by means of conventional browsers (e.g. Internet Explorer). Data keeping is performed by a relational database management system (RDBMS). By means of plugins RIMOS can easily be adapted to new requirements at any time which ensures that this system is a secure investment for the future.

Easy Administration with Web-based User Interfaces
In routine operation RIMOS does not require any interaction by users. Depending on their right to access, however, users can observe the exchange of information via a web-based user interface. In addition, users can write and send texts, maintain master data, carry out evaluations and intervene in the distribution of information. While working on a mask, users can at the same time be kept up-to-date about information or tasks received by the system from other public transport companies.
