Convenient for passengers and operators
Travelling comfort begins with comprehensive information for passengers throughout their journey – from the moment they leave the house until they reach their destination. This is a big task for the customer service departments in transport companies. Funkwerk Information Technologies’ fully automatic customer information systems (CIS) are an effective solution: they provide comprehensive information for passengers while relieving the burden on operators and announcers at the same time. Funkwerk IT supplies display systems and the corresponding software solutions for railways, urban public transport systems and airports.
Audio-visual Customer Information
Displays, monitors and boards for visual customer information in all station areas are available in various technologies. Display units are designed in accordance with the customer’s specifications and preferences. Parallel to the visual display of information, acoustic passenger announcements can also be generated. These automated announcements can be in English and German or can be configured to meet customer requirements. In addition to routine announcements, passenger arrival and connecting train announcements can be automatically triggered by a special sensor technology developed by Funkwerk Information Technologies.
Control and Operation
Funkwerk IT’s customer information systems do not require continuous operation. This reduces considerably the amount of manual work involved. More than 100 stations can be supervised and controlled by one information manager only. Control of displays and announcements is fully automatic. The CIS extracts all the necessary data about current train routes from external sources such as the operations control centres of DB AG or other control centres. For this purpose the process data server (PDS) developed by Funkwerk IT is used. The PDS, which has been in successful operation for some time, enables automatic announcements about deviations from scheduled operations such as delays or platform changes. Live announcements and all non train related announcements, e.g. additional information in the event of disruption of service, can be broadcast via a built-in microphone function.
Passenger Safety
The customer warning system developed by Funkwerk IT is a special type of customer information system. It generates warnings fully automatically e.g. at high-risk stations or to warn passengers standing on platforms about high speed through trains. The customer warning system, which is based on the customer information systems, has special features to ensure these warnings are broadcast. Furthermore, the customer warning system server can centrally control the passenger warning announcements of a whole region.
