| New Rail Operations Management System for DOI Victoria |
|
The Department of Infrastructure (DOI) which is the State Government agency responsible for the provision of essential infrastructure in the Australian State of Victoria, has awarded Funkwerk IT York a contract to develop the Timetable Management and Fleet Management System Modules for a new Rail Operations Management System (ROMS).The development will build on Funkwerk IT's existing products, Resource Manager, ResourcePlan, TrainPlan, AccessPlan and RailPlan (TPC) which will be adopted as one integrated system. DOI is the formal contractor of ROMS; the system will, however, be used by the relevant train operating companies, currently Connex and V/Line.
ROMS will support a wide range of functions including long term and short term timetable planning and platform allocation. Furthermore, ROMS will enable faster and more efficient design, generation and distribution of robust and conflict free timetables as well as optimal staff rosters and fleet allocation plans that take into account infrastructure restrictions, business rules and agreements. ROMS also supports day-of-operation management including incident management and ultra-short term replanning, post service transactions (e.g. rolling stock maintenance plan update, etc) and management reporting on train service delivery (timetable, fleet and staff).
The project will run over a period of three years. To ensure a tailor-made and fit for purpose solution DOI and Funkwerk IT have split the work packages into iterations of development. As the work is developed Victoria DOI will be invited to review the emerging solution and provide feedback. Each iteration through the stages will incrementally build on the previous iteration.
The first milestone, Funkwerk IT York's timetable planning tool TrainPlan, will be delivered in October 2008. The total volume of the order amounts to £2.3 million. The Australian project is a further important step in Funkwerk IT York's expansion of the international market after successful recent orders from the Netherlands, the USA and South Africa.
